The Rwenzoris were called the Mountains of the Moon by ancient geographers who'd heard about them but never seen them. They run along Uganda's western border, they're glaciated on the equator, and the coffee grown on their slopes is quietly excellent.

This is 100% arabica \\\— SL28 and SL14 \\\— from the Busongora North Coffee Farmers' Cooperative, which is owned and governed by its farmers rather than by an exporter. Over 500 families participate as small share contributors. Every farmer is registered with a unique identification number, which means this coffee is traceable back to the specific land it grew on.

Cherry is received and processed at two wash stations in the Kajole, Kithoma and Kaswa parishes, close enough that farmers aren't hauling their harvest for hours. Once dried, it's milled in Kasese, cupped, and prepared for export.

The cooperative trains its growers in sustainable agricultural practice, and the stated long-term aim is straightforward: give farmers the knowledge to be self-sustaining, and break generational cycles of poverty. Traceability isn't a marketing feature here. It's the mechanism.

Brew it: drip or French press. Full body means it holds up to milk if that's your preference.

Pairs with: a long book and a longer afternoon.
